The CEO at umetec is a woman
“Managing a company requires smart decisions, empathy and courage,” Alexandra Walter is convinced. She founded umetec together with her husband – and is the sole CEO.
The steel construction company is based in the traditional metal cluster in Eberswalde near Berlin. The 50 employees recently celebrated the company’s 20th anniversary together.
Two decades for the energy transition
umetec GmbH specialises in the manufacture of special components and series production. “We do more with metal” – that is our motto. As a producer for the wind power and solar industry, the company stands for sustainability – “and has done so since its founding years”, says Walter.
The Walter couple started out with a car repair shop. At some point, a regular customer asked them to weld a solar system frame as an exception. “Demand increased and the customer delivered entire lorries full of frame”, recalls the Managing Director. The foundation stone for umetec Stahlbau was laid.
Flexible and approachable
Customers appreciate the company’s flexible solutions and uncomplicated communication. “We make special requests possible, even at short notice,” emphasises Walter. The contact persons from production management can be reached directly, so changes can be communicated quickly. The machinery can also be retooled quickly.
“Managing a company means looking clearly to the future and being open to new solutions,” says Walter, who has a degree in business administration, describing her recipe for success. At umetec Stahlbau, the focus is on Industry 4.0 and the digitalisation of production.
Digitalisation and Industry 4.0
Walter invested in a fully automated Cobot Welding robot in order to be able to offer customers more efficient services. In high-performance TRUMPF TruBend and TruLaser folding and laser machines. And another logistics hall is currently being built.
“I’m an entrepreneur by conviction,” says Walter. And quite convincingly so.
